New build residence at Dodges Ferry, 40 minutes from Hobart in Tasmania's south.

The clients wanted to create a retreat from the stresses of their busy lives overseas, but also bring a little of the european influence into their home.

A combination of timber, concrete, blockwork and glass was used to create this peaceful haven, with warm intimate spaces and soft textural material qualities, yet with an opulence that is befitting this beautiful treed site that looks out to views of Fredrick Henry Bay.

Material excavated from the site was used to create the surrounding landscaping to assist in merging the house with its environment.

The house engages many elements of passive solar design and can operate independently of the power grid.

Construction was completed for the 250 square metre house in early 2008.
